Quick Tips about Ski Tubes

1. Actually a Rave ski tube is nothing more than an inner tube with handles and a connection to a tow line. The inner tube, or "bladder," is usually made from strong PVC material. A nylon cover adds protection and is usually found on higher quality tubes.

2. Correct inflation is achieved when the inner tube is firm and the cover is tight-fitting and wrinkle free. Over-inflation of the Island Hopper tube can damage the PVC material and may rip seams in the nylon cover.

3. A standard tube will have handles on the top and may have a floor on the inside of the donut hole. A rider can lie on his stomach across the top, sit with his rear in the donut hole, or sit upright with his rear on top of the Aquaglide tube and feet in the donut.

4. A deck tube has a flat design not unlike a mattress. Riders lie on their stomachs, holding on to handles. Riding these Airhead tubes puts your face close to the water and gives a great sensation of speed.

5. Single rider tubes tend to be high performance. They are more maneuverable and better suited for tricks, jumping, flying and high speeds. They are great for use with jet skis.

6. Multi-rider tubes are ideal for families who want to tow a group of kids. They are larger, slower, and heavier than single rider tubes. Multi-person tubes require use of a heavy duty tow line and towing harness. Careful attention to equipment weight and stress limitations is required.

7. A safe "fast" towing speed for adults is about 20-25 mph. Children should be towed at less than 20 mph. Most towables will come up on a plane at 10-25 mph, depending on the weight of the riders. The towable's nose should be kept up until planing.

8. Children under 6 should not ride any type of ski tube, and children over 6 should only ride under careful supervision. When towing children, drive the boat at slower speeds and use a shorter tow rope.

9. Always consider the weight, size, strength and skill of the passengers when deciding a towing speed. Banana boats should be under full control at all times.

10. A Sportsstuff ski tube should be completely dry before storing. If it will be stored for several months, it should be deflated and stored indoors.
